Gastfamilie!/ Hostfamily!

Ja, ich habe meine Gastfamilie bekommen :O
Ich habe sie am Mittwoch bekommen, also vor zwei Tagen. 
Man sagt ja immer, dass man die Gastfamilie dann bekommt, wenn man am wenigsten damit rechnet. So war es bei mir nicht :P Ein Tag bevor ich meine Gastfamilie bekommen habe, haben schon drei andere Leute, die auch mit mir nach York gehen, ihre Gastfamilie bekommen. In der E-mail, die sie bekommen haben stand, dass auch die anderen ihre Familien in den nächsten Tagen bekommen werden. Ich war gerade für einen Städtetrip in Rom, als ich abends dann wieder im Hotel war, habe ich als erstes meine Mails gescheckt und da war dann die E-mail mit dem Betreff "your hostfamily". Somit war es alles andere als unerwartet.
So nun aber zu meiner eigentlichen Gastfamilie. Meine Gastfamilie besteht aus meiner Hostmum (42) und meinem Hostdad (43), sowie 4 Hunden, 5(!) Katzen, 2 Hühnern und Fischen. Ich hatte mir ja einen Hund gewünscht, weil ich ohne nicht leben könnte, aber gleich so viele? Haha aber gut okay. Zudem bin ich deren erste Austauschschülerin, was ich eigentlich ganz schön finde. Leben werde ich in einer (für englische Verhältnisse große) Doppelhaushälfte. In einem gepflegten Viertel im Norden von York. Mein Schule ist fast nebenan, ich muss nur ca. 10 min. gehen. Um ehrlich zu sein, war ich am Anfang ziemlich geschockt, als ich das erste Foto von denen gesehen habe. Mit soetwas hätte ich nicht gerechnet. Meine Gasteltern sind nähmlich fast ganzkörper tätowiert und ZIEMLICH stark bzw. außergewöhnlich geschminkt. Aber nach dem ersten Schock fand ich es eigentlich ganz cool, ist mal was anderes :) Ich habe auch schon etwas mit denen geschrieben und sie scheinen sehr nett. Mal sehen wie es ist, wenn ich da bin.
Heute ist auch ein Brief mit meiner Fächerwahl angekommen. Sollten die so bleiben, wäre das ziemlich scheiße... Denn statt Tourismus hätte ich dann Business Studies (was sich mal richtig langweilig anhört und mit Mathe zu tun hat) und Soziologie statt Spanisch. Ich habe denen jetzt erstmal eine Mail geschrieben. Mal sehen, ob sich da noch was ändern lässt.
Ich habe auch vor zwei Wochen angefangen mein Abschiedsbuch rumzugeben und freue mich schon richtig es zu lesen.

I got my hostfamily two days ago! I was in Rome for a city trip, when I got the e-mail. Normally you say that you get the hostfamily when you least expect it. That wasn't the case when I got my hostfamily. A few other exchange students, who will go to York as well, got their hostfamily a day before. They told us that we would get the hostfamilies in the next few days too. So, the first thing I did, when I arrived in the hotel, was that I updated my e-mails. And there was the e-mail with my hostfamily :)
My hostfamily lives in the north of York in a nice suburb near my school. I think I need around 10 min to get there. They live in a big house (at least for the English standard). My hostmum is 42 years old and my hostdad is 43. They have 4 dogs, 5(!) cats, 2 chicken and some fishes. I'd really hoped that my hostfamily would have a dog, but I didn't think that I would get a small zoo :P But it is gonna be nice with so many dogs.  When I saw the first picture of them, I was quite shocked, because I expected something else. They are nearly fully tattooed and wear quite a lot of make up. But after I few minutes I thought that it was quite cool to have a hostfamily like that. I already wrote a bit with them and they really seem nice. Let's see how it is going to be when we see each other face to face. 

Also, I received a letter today. There are my subjects listed, but the wrong ones. For example "business studies" instead of "tourism" and no "Spanish". Buisness studies sounds soooo extremely boring and I looked so much forward to Tourism and I also have to continue Spanish for my A-levels in Germany. I wrote a E-mail to the school and hopefully they will be able to change it. :/

Abschiedsbuch :) / farewell book

Für manche mag das zwar etwas früh sein, aber ich habe mein Abschiedsbuch fertig gestaltet. Ich hatte einfach mal wieder Lust zu basteln und dann hab ich mir gedacht: Fang doch  mit dem Abschiedsbuch an. Und ich kann euch nur raten, fangt früh genug an!!! Vielleicht nicht so früh wie ich, aber man sollte rechtzeitig anfangen! Ich habe in den Weihnachtsferien angefangen und bin letztes Wochenende fertig geworden. Also es kostet echt viel Zeit, wenn man sich Mühe gibt.
Ich denke mal, dass jeder weiß, was ein Abschiedsbuch ist, aber für die, die es nicht wissen: Ein Abschiedsbuch ist ein Buch, in das die engsten Freunde und Familie hineinschreibt und das liest man dann traditionell auf dem Flug. Ich habe mein Abschiedsbuch auf Amazon bestellt. Für die, die es interessiert, es ist von der Marke Semikolon. Mir hat die Größe einfach sehr gut gefallen.
Mir war schon von Anfang an klar, dass ich eine Collage aufs Cover machen wollte, aber Leute ihr wisst gar nicht wie schwer es ist! Es hat so lange gedauert, bis es mir endlich gefallen hat :O
Rumgeben werde ich das Buch vorraussichtlich ab Mitte April, da ich ja erst Anfang September fliege :)

P.S. Es sind jetzt noch genau 200 Tage... Es kommt einem so vor, als stand da gestern noch 327 :O

My farewell book is finished! I started in December to tinker the book. Some people may think that I started quite early, but I tell you guys it takes so much time to tinker it, when you want to have a nice result. I bought the book on amazon and the papers with the Union Jack in the USA. Especially the collage takes a lot of time and is a lot more difficult than I thought it would be! 
For everybody who don't know what a farewell book is, it is a book where all the close friends and family write in. Normally you share some memories on the pages and just write some lovely words ;P
The person who made the book will read it on the flight to the hostcountry.

Kennenlernen, Flug usw./ Flight and other students

Ja, ich melde mich schon wieder.
In den letzten Tagen ist relativ viel passiert!

Als allererstes haben wir den Flug gebucht :) Es geht am 04.09 abends los. Ich habe mich dazu entschieden mit zwei Koffern zu fliegen, ich weiß zwar noch nicht, wie ich mit zwei Koffern a 23kg, einer Laptoptasche, einer Kameratasche und einer Handtasche zurecht kommen soll, aber okay :P Für zwei Koffer habe ich mich entschieden, weil es einfach so extrem viel ist, was man mitnehmen muss und ich möchte mir in England nicht alles neu kaufen. Das heißt dann, Sommersachen, Übergangssachen und vor allem Wintersachen, also Winterjacke, -Schuhe und dicke Pullis. Dann kommen ja noch Gastgeschenke, andere Schuhe und Kosmetikartikel :O

Gestern habe ich dann meine Kreditkarte fürs Auslandsjahr bekommen. Wir haben uns für eine Kreditkarte von der Volkswagen Bank entschieden, da bei der keine Kosten für Auslandsabbuchungen anfallen und man sie nicht überziehen kann :)

Zudem habe ich nun Kontakt zu 11 anderen Deutschen, die auch auf die Huntington School gehen werden. Ich muss sagen, die sind alle extrem nett und ich bin froh jetzt schon mit ihnen Kontakt zu haben. Während des Fluges werden wir auch alle neben einander sitzen, also in einer Reihe bzw. in den Reihen davor oder dahinter. Die armen anderen Fluggäste, bei so vielen weinenden, aufgeregten Austauschschülern.

Ich weiß gar  nicht, ob ich schonmal erwähnt habe welche Fächer ich gewählt habe...
Also gewählt habe ich:
Geography
Travel & Tourism
Government & Politics
(Sociology/ Spanish)

Endgültig sind die Fächer noch nicht, aber es wird versucht, dass ich diese Fächer haben werde. Eigentlich habe ich Sociology gewählt, würde das jetzt allerdings mit Spanisch tauschen wolllen, weil es Spanisch da jetzt auch in der Oberstufe gibt :) Bisher sieht es so aus, als würde ich in jedem Fach die einzige Deutsche sein, bis auf in Geography. Ob das ein Vor- bzw. Nachteil ist weiß ich noch nicht...

Ja das waren dann erstmal die neusten Ereignisse :)

Yes, I know it's me again, but it happend a lot in the last days. 

Firstly, my flight is booked! I will fly on the evening of the 4th September. I decided to take two cases a 23kg with me, because it is just so much I have to bring to England. For example winter jacket, winter shoes, pullovers, presents, shoes and so much more! It is going to be funny because I will run around at the airport with two big cases, a camara bag, computer bag and my normal handbag. 

Secondly, I got my credit card for England. I got the credit card from Volkswagen Bank (yep that's the car brand, but hey I am German), because there won't be any fees in England. 

Thirdly, I have contact with 11 of the 14 students, who will go to England with me. I think six of them are from Hamburg as well. We all booked the flight together, so we will sit next to each other :)

Also, I don't know whether I already told you my subject choices.

Travel & Tourism
Government & Politics
(Sociology/ Spanish)

I actually chose Sociology, because I didn't know that it was possible to choose Spanish. I already wrote an e-mail and asked whether I could change to Spanish. Hopefully that will be possible. They will tell us in June. 
 As I said, quite a lot happend :)

Abflugtermin :D/ departure date

Heyyy,
vor knapp einer Stunde habe ich eine E-mail meiner Organisation erhalten, mit vielen Infos fürs Auslandsjahr.

Also es steht fest, am 04.09.2015 werde ich nach Manchester fliegen und von da aus dann mit dem Zug nach York. :)) Das sind jetzt noch gut 214 Tage, bis es los geht :O

Zusätzlich habe ich die E-mail Adressen von den anderen Deutschen bekommen, die zur gleichen Zeit wie ich in York sein werden. Mal sehen wie die so sind. Ich glaube mit mir gehen noch 14 andere nach York und aus Skandinavien sollen auch noch welche kommen.
 In der Mail standen sonst noch die allgemeinen Informationen über das Treffen im Juni und ein paar Informationen wie die Gastfamilien ausgesucht werden usw.
Das Beste ist, das die Schule Spanisch jetzt auch in der Oberstufe anbietet, was heißt, dass ich Spanisch weiter machen kann :)

Zudem hat mich vor ein paar Tagen ein Mädchen angeschrieben, die jetzt im Moment in York ist, um Fragen zu klären. Ist ganz cool ein paar Fragen los zu werden :P

Mein Abschiedsbuch ist mittlerweile auch fast fertig gebastelt, mir fehlen nur noch die Texte. Ich finde es irgendwie schwierig so einen Text zu formulieren. Es kommt mir noch alles so weit weg vor :O dabei ist es das gar nicht.

Die Fotos vom Abschiedsbuch lade ich dann hoch, sobald ich ganz fertig bin.

Hi, 
I received an e-mail from my organisation an hour ago. 

I got the exact date when I will fly to England. It is the 04.09.2015! I will fly from Hamburg to Manchester and then with the train to York. 214 more days until I'll go. 

I also got the e-mail adresses from the other students :D Together with me, there will be 15 German students and a few from Scandinavia. There where a lot of information in the e-mail, about the meeting in June, about the hostfamilies and the flight etc. 
BUT the best is that I can continue Spanish!! It wasn't save until I got the e-mail, but now the school offers Spanish in the A-levels as well and that is awesome for me, because I want to continue Spanish! 

Moreover, I got a message from a girl, who was on my German school as well and who is in York now. She told me a bit about her time there and answered all my questions. 

My farewell book (or however it is called in English... I will just say "Farewell book" :P) is nearly finished, there are just a few details missing but I will upload the pictures as soon as I am ready.

Update und soo/ update

Ja, also erstmal für alle ein schönes neues Jahr.
Schon krass, dass wir jetzt schon 2015 haben. Noch 241 Tage bzw. 8 Monate und dann geht es los. Es kommt mir so vor, als hätte ich gestern erst die Entscheidung getroffen ein Auslandsjahr zu machen. Wie die Zeit vergeht...

Gestern habe ich meine Organisation angeschrieben, da Jan- Philipp, der auch mit mir zur Huntington School geht vor ca. 3 Wochen einen Brief bekommen hat, in dem die Fächer aufgelistet sind, die man wählen kann. Doch bis heute ist dieser Brief nicht bei mir angekommen :O
Letztes Jahr als ich in York war, haben einige Postkarten mehr als 3 Wochen gebraucht bzw. sind gar nicht erst angekommen...
Die Antwort haben ich gleich am Abend erhalten. Der Brief wird wohl bald nochmal losgeschickt werden. Zudem wurde mir gesagt, dass ich in ca. einem Monat die Email- Adressen von den anderen Schülern, die auch auf die Huntington School gehen, bekommen werde :) Am liebsten würde ich die sofort bekommen wollen <3 nbsp="" p="">Es gibt zwar noch 20 andere Leute, die es auch nach England verschlägt, aber die gehen alle in den Süden, ein paar Gleichgesinnte wären schön!

Langsam muss man sich auch ein bisschen auf England einstimmen, deswegen habe ich mir schonmal ein paar Dinge zugelegt ;P

First of all, Happy New Year!!
Just 241 days or better 8 months until I'll fly to York. It is quite amazing how the times passes! I mean it feels like I decided to do an abroad year yesterday, but it was a year ago!!

Yesterday I wrote an e-mail to my organisation, because Jan Phillipp ( he goes to the same school with me in Germany and will also go to York) got an letter about the subject choice a month ago and  mine still hasn't arrived.
I got the answer on the same evening. They told me that I would get the letter soon and that they would also send me the e-mail adresses of the other German students soon! I can't wait to get to know them to be honest. Until yet I just found some Germans, who will go to the south of England. So, I am really, really excited to get to know the other students, who will go to Huntington School :)

In the past I got some things with the Union Jack to prepare myself for the time in England :P

Bewerbungsablauf usw. / application

ich wollte einmal berichten, wie mien Bewerbungsprozess abgelaufen ist. Also nachdem ich mich entschieden hatte mein Auslandsjahr in England zu verbringen, habe ich mich nach Organisationen umgesehen. In England ist es schwerer mit den Organisationen, da die Gastfamilien in England bezahlt werden und man somit aufpassen muss, dass die Familien einen wirklich wegen des Menschen aufnehmen und nicht wegen des Geldes. Zudem ist England auch teurer als die USA. Zum Schluss hatte ich zwei Schulen in der engeren Auswahl. Einmal die Schule, auf die ich jetzt gehe (Huntington School, York) und eine andere Schule (Samuel- Ward Academy, Haverhill).

Da ich mir die Schule in York auf der Sprachreise bereits angeguckt hatte, bin ich mit meinem Vater nach Haverhill geflogen um mir die Samuel- Ward Academy anzugucken. Im Prinzip hat mir die auch gefallen, nur das Dorf oder die Stadt ist echt klein und das Fächerangebot hat mich auch nicht richtig überzeugt. Die Frau dort war echt mega nett gewesen, aber im großen und ganzen war mir das Dorf einfach zu klein und man kann es sich nicht jedes Wochenende leisten nach Cambridge oder London zu fahren. Und zu den Fächern, die waren einfach wie die Fächer in Deutschland und ich gehe ja ins Ausland um Neues kennenzulernen und auszuprobieren.
Deswegen habe ich mir dann die Bewerbungsunterlagen für die Schule in York zuschicken lassen. Die Bewerbung bestand aus einem kurzem Steckbrief und einen kleinen Aufsatz, denn ich schreiben sollte. Innerhalb von einer Woche hatte ich dann die Bestätigung :)

Vor knapp einem Monat habe ich dann ungefähr zehn Fragen beantwortet, wie meine Gastfamilie aussehen sollte und welche Fächer ich wählen möchte. Hoffen wir mal, dass noch weitere Fragen kommen werden, denn zehn Fragen um eine Gastfamilie zuzuordnen ist nicht wirklich viel :O

I just wanted to tell you how I applied and stuff. So, after I decided to go to England I flew to the school near Cambridge, as I already told you in the last entry. But I didn't like the school, that's why I applied to Huntington School in summer 2014. I just had to fill out a paper about me and then I had to write an essay why I wanted to go abroad and why I chose to go to Huntington School. Within a week I had the conformation that I could spend my abroad year in York. 
In October I got an e-mail from the organisation with ten questions about my hostfamily. (Questions like: Do you want to have children in your hostfamily?) The thing is, that it were just ten question, which isn't much to find a suitable hostfamily I think... Let's hope that they will send more questions soon. I am actually quite afraid that I'll get a bad hostfamily, because I really made bad experience with hostfamilies in the past. In England the hostfamilies get paid, when they accommodate an exchange student.  My worry is that they won't treat me like a family member then and just accommodate me because of the money. 
But let's see :)

Welches Land?! What country?!

für mich war mit einer der schwersten Entscheidungen die Länderwahl. Wo würde ich mich wohlfühlen? Mich zu Hause fühlen? Spaß haben aber trotzdem etwas lernen? Welche Kultur möchte ich näher kennenlernen?

Australien, Neuseeland und Kanada fiehlen wegen des Preises schonmal weg, so blieben noch England, Irland und Amerika. Irland habe ich eigentlich von Anfang an ausgeschlossen. Aber die Entscheidung zwischen den USA und England war schon schwer genug.

Nach vielen Überlegungen und Erfahrung anderer gab es immernoch Pro und Contra Argumente für beide Länder, zwischen denen ich mich nicht entscheiden konnte. Ich hatte dann ein Gespräch mit einem Mann von einer amerikanischen Organisation. Danach war ich mir eigentlich ziemlich sicher, dass ich nach Amerika gehen wollte. Doch ich fühlte mich mit dieser Entscheidung extrem unwohl. Und da wurde mir dann bewusst, dass wenn ich ein schlechtes Gefühl dabei habe, es nicht die richtige Entscheidung sein kann. Deshalb begann ich nach Schulen in England zu suchen und bewarb mich bei zwei bzw. flog nach England um ein Gespräch zu führen. Als dann klar war, dass meine Reise nach England gehen würde fühlte ich mich 100x besser und bekam wieder das Gefühl von Vorfreude.
England hatte mich schon von der ersten Sekunde an fasziniert. Sofort habe ich mich wohlgefühlt und darauf kommt es ja irgendwie an, oder?
Ich war zwar auch schon in den USA, aber ich kann mir einfach nicht vorstellen dort für ein ganzes Jahr zu leben.

Letztenendes sollte man immer einen Bauchgefühl nachgehen und sich Gedanken machen, wo man sich mehr heimisch fühlen würde, wenn es hilft sogar eine Pro und Contra Liste aufstellen.  ;)

the hardest question or decision was that I didn't know where to go to... Australia and New Zealand are too expensive, that's why I didn't have to think about these both. Canada and Ireland were never fascinating for me. But I couldn't decided between the USA and England. Where would I want to live? Where would I feel better? Which accent do I like more? Just having fun or learing something? Would I get along better with the Americans or the English?
It really wasn't easy to decided!! I had a talk with somebody, who did his abroad year in the States and afterwards I told my parents that I wanted to go the USA. But after I had decided, I felt really bad and I didn't look forward to the abroad year anymore. So, I searched in the internet for some British schools, where I could spend my year. I told my parents again and they quite liked the idea because they already knew the organisation in York. I only found two schools, which were possible to pay for. One school was the one in York and the other one was near Cambridge. My Dad and I flew to the one near Cambridge but I didn't like the school, because the subjects are the same as the ones in Germany. So, now I'll go to York.

Just listen to your heart, when you have to decided to what country you want to go to :)
